The Financial Aid Office as Your Advocate

Ronald Johnson, Director of Financial Aid, UCLA

Ronald Johnson has been writing about and advising on college financial aid for over 30 years. Ronald has served in the financial aid office of several prominent institutions, including Golden Gate University, University of California Davis, and his current role as Director of Financial Aid at the University of California Los Angeles. Mr. Johnson is also an accomplished author on the subject, having contributed to the Time-Life series "Financial Aid for College." He co-authored two books in the series: "Understanding Your Plan for Funding Options" and "Ayuda Financiera Para Su Educacion Superior."

Mr. Johnson is also the co-founder of the Latino Educational Achievement Project (LEAP) a nonprofit organization committed to improving academic achievement of Latino students. In addition to co-founding LEAP, he has served as a board member or advisor to several financial aid companies and departments:

  • NASFAA Board of Directors
  • Nellie Mae Advisory Council
  • Sallie Mae Advisory Council
  • Verusa Advisory Council

Throughout his professional career, Mr. Johnson has worked tirelessly in toward the goal of educational access, having stated, "I've never been certain whether I chose Financial Aid or Financial Aid chose me, but I believe in destiny, and I cannot imagine the "course of my life" without the passion I feel about Financial Aid in Higher Education."
