Over 50 Schools - From UConn to UCal - Set To Headline Inaugural Event
Boston, MA - Oct. 15, 2007 - CollegeWeekLive (www.collegeweeklive.com) today announced the launch of its two-day virtual college fair connecting thousands of high school students with colleges in a live, interactive environment. The online-only event will take place on November 13th and 14th from 3:00 EST to 11:00 EST and admission is free. CollegeWeekLive will connect students from the US and abroad with leading colleges and universities from both the US and Canada - including University of Virginia, Smith College, Marshall University, University of Mississippi - Ole Miss, University of California - Irvine, University of Connecticut, Northeastern University, Tufts University, Air Force Academy, McGill University and many others.
"CollegeWeekLive brings flexibility to the college admissions process for this generation, filling an unmet market need for time-strapped students and parents," said Kasey Urquidez, Director of Recruitment, The University of Arizona. "With today's college bound students spending more and more time online, they are used to interacting virtually. This makes CollegeWeekLive a great medium for this demographic, offering an efficient and timely way to visit more colleges in two days than many students would have the opportunity to visit otherwise. We are very excited to be participating."
CollegeWeekLive will feature:
- Live streaming video keynote presentations from college admission experts, admissions officers, and students including:
- Howard Greene (Author of the Greene College Guides and hosts of the PBS Series Ten Steps to College)
- Penny Hastings (Author of How to Win A Sports Scholarship)
- Elizabeth Wissner-Gross (Author of What Colleges Don't Tell You and What High Schools Don't Tell You)
- Katherine Cohen (CEO and Founder of IvyWise)
- Real-time, interactive Q&A sessions with college admissions officials
- Live interactive student panel discussions from schools across the US.
- Virtual booths for colleges, featuring electronic brochures, videos, webinars, pod casts and real-time IM and video chat between admissions counselors and students/parents
- Networking capabilities to connect students with other students and service providers
- A resource center for students and parents
- Scheduled school-specific presentations by admissions officials
The average student-to-counselor ratio in US high schools is 315:1 and counselors spend 28% of their time assisting students with their college search. CollegeWeekLive enables students and parents to "visit" multiple colleges in just two days, chat live with existing students, meet with college admissions experts, and attend sessions geared toward enhancing the process of choosing a college that's best for the student - all from the their home computer.
"We are inviting students and their families to experience the college admissions process like never before, in a manner that provides the best opportunity to review more colleges in more regions - and in less time and at no cost to the student or family," said Robert Rosenbloom, CEO of PlatformQ, producer of CollegeWeekLive. "We will allow students to not only receive comprehensive college admissions advice and guidance, but to meet with students and ask questions in a form of communication they are comfortable with - via the Internet. In turn, today's forward-thinking colleges are showing prospective students that they are tech-savvy and willing to embrace the environment in which students today communicate and thrive."
