PlatformQ is the leading producer of live online events -- and is seeking a Vice President of Technology to play a key role in shaping the company�s virtual event platform.
The company produces events in the education and healthcare industries which draw attendees, sponsors and thought leaders from around the world. Events include CollegeWeekLive, the world's largest and most successful college fair; CardioCareLive, an online CME conference held in collaboration with Johns Hopkins for healthcare professionals who work with patients with cardio-metabolic risk factors; as well as other events in the education and healthcare areas. PlatformQ events have been covered by major media outlets such as ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox, NBC, New York Times, and USA Today. The company has grown to 45 employees in 4 years since its founding.
PlatformQ has launched the first generation of a revolutionary online event model to deliver unique and valuable content using the latest video, networking and Web 2.0 technologies. The company�s current online event platform offers audiences live, video-based interaction with content providers and peers. It also provides leading edge tools for marketers, to help them attain their branding, lead generation and sales goals.
The successful candidate will play an integral role in shaping the next generation of the company�s virtual event experience -- by working with outside technology partners as well as heading up selective development efforts in house. The position requires a highly motivated individual who possesses a solid, baseline familiarity with technologies at the OS, development, web services, and database level. The candidate should have a strong interest in online media, interactive marketing, and next generation web technologies. Experience working with technology vendors, integrating consumer-facing technologies, and web site design is critical. Expertise in online video and HTML5 are highly desirable.
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as the company�s technology lead in the development of a virtual events platform -- providing advice, oversight, and development direction.
- Act as the company�s technical liaison with all technology partners -- overseeing integration, managing service relationships, and monitoring product improvements.
- Assemble and manage a small, talented team of internal developers and outsourcers over time as needed -- to support and extend the virtual events platform.
- Lead, manage, and motivate a small staff of project managers and developers to launch and complete product and feature enhancements to the platform.
- Assist in evaluating and selecting component technologies that are appropriate to incorporate into the PlatformQ virtual events platform.
- Oversee performance and QA testing on the product platform, across all events.
- Create technical requirements based on business and product needs.
- Collaborate with the company�s web design agencies -- to create and upgrade the company�s web site, as well as virtual event-specific web sites.
Skill Requirements:
- 5-7 years of experience developing Web 2.0 online media sites -- specifically those that include online video, webinars, podcasts or other online rich media.
- Project management supervisory experience, with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and set priorities.
- Proven individual contributor and collaborative team player -- must have the ability to work effectively in a "roll up your sleeves" start-up culture.
- Ability to articulate technology needs in clear, business-centric terms.
- A genuine interest in creating great content and virtual events to foster global learning and social responsibility.
Technical Requirements:
- Development Platforms: familiarity with one or more of the following: .NET (C/C++), Java/J2EE (Servlets, JSP, Javascript, etc.)
- WebServices: SOAP, XML, WSDL
- Databases: MS SQL Server, Oracle
- Front End web development: HTML/DHTML, AJAX, Flash, PHP, ColdFusion, Python, Ruby on Rails, cross-browser compliance
- Open source: Wowza, Drupal, Swish, and other experience helpful
